Madison to buy cars, pay off leases
DANIELSVILLE - Madison County sheriff's deputies are scheduled to receive five new cars this year, and the county plans to pay off more than $230,000 in leases for older cruisers.

Commissioners voted 4-1 during their regular meeting this week to fund the five cars and pay down what the county borrowed in the past three years to buy 10 vehicles for the sheriff's office and equipment for emergency medical responders.
Clearing the debt will help the county start saving and planning for large equipment purchases, instead of acquiring vehicles through the more expensive option of leasing them, said commission Chairman Anthony Dove.
"You want to know where you're going instead of trying to catch up," Dove said.
Commissioner John Pethel voted against the proposal because he did not like that it calls for the county to buy Dodge Chargers, he said.
"All the contacts that I've had ... every one of them has said, 'Don't buy Dodge Chargers,' " Pethel said.
